Moody’s Downgrades 26 Italian Banks On Recession, Austerity
May 16 2012 – Moody's Investors Service has downgraded the debt ratings of 26 banks in Italy on the back of the government's austerity measures and the country's recession, Associated Press reports. The agency cut its long-term debt and deposit ratings by one notch for 10 lenders, by two notches for eight lenders, by three notches for six lenders and by four notches for two lenders. Moody's, which pointed to the country's slip back into recession in early 2012, also maintains a negative outlook for all 26 banks.
